About the team
Health Information Services (HIS) at the Women's covers a range of services including Electronic Medical Record (EMR) support, clinical coding, statutory reporting and data integrity, medical enquiries/release of information (ROI) requests, retrieval of historic medical record for research, and medical transcription (outpatient service).
About the role
As the Clinical Coding Lead, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Clinical Coding Team while providing expert clinical coding guidance and support. The role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant coded data to support organisational performance, statutory reporting obligations, and Activity Based Funding (ABF) outcomes.
A regular day will see you:
- Lead and coordinate the Clinical Coding Team to achieve coding performance, quality, and Activity Based Funding (ABF) targets
- Monitor coding quality and data integrity through audits, validation activities, and actioning PICQ and HAC reports
- Support the accurate and timely submission of Victorian Cancer Registry data
- Collaborate with clinicians, the HIS Data Team, and key stakeholders to support coding accuracy, NWAU optimisation, and clinical documentation improvement initiatives
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across Health Information Services (HIS)
About you
You’ll bring with you:
- Bachelor of Health Information Management or equivalent qualification in health, and/or demonstrated experience in clinical coding
- Demonstrated experience managing health datasets within a hospital setting, including familiarity with Victorian datasets and reporting requirements
- Staff leadership or management experience within a healthcare environment
- Strong understanding of clinical coding standards, data quality, auditing processes, and Activity Based Funding (ABF) principles
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities, workflows, and deadlines in a high-volume environment, with proficiency in data analysis, validation, and reporting tools
