  • Full time, ongoing position 
  • Parkville location, with multiple public transport options available
  • $66,767 - $73,811 (pro-rata for part-time) + salary packaging + super + 5 weeks annual leave

About the team

Patient and Visitor Services provides essential frontline support through switchboard operations, information services, wayfinding and visitor assistance. The team works closely with clinical services, security and emergency management to ensure timely, accurate communication across the organisation.

About the role

As an Switchboard Operator you will manage the hospital’s telecommunications systems, ensuring calls are handled efficiently and directed appropriately, while delivering exceptional service to patients, visitors and staff. You will play a critical part in maintaining effective communication flow across the hospital, including during emergency situations, and contributes to a safe, welcoming and responsive environment. In addition, the Switchboard Team work collaboratively with the Patient & Visitor Support Team Monday to Friday 6pm to 8pm with a member of the Switchboard covering the Information Desk.

 

A regular day will see you:

  • Operate the hospital switchboard, answering and directing calls promptly and professionally
  • Respond to alarms, emergency codes and paging systems in line with procedures
  • Maintain accurate call records, directories and on-call rosters
  • Provide helpful, appropriate information while maintaining confidentiality
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, visitors and staff
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the hospital to ensure effective message delivery

 

About you

You are a positive, professional and supportive person. Calm under pressure, a strong communicator and committed to delivering excellent customer service. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and can confidently manage high call volumes while maintaining professionalism and accuracy.

You’ll bring with you:

  • Experience in switchboard, call centre, reception or customer service roles and systems including ARC, Lanpage, EMR, IPM, Xacom or Cisco
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to manage competing demands
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high-pressure or emergency situations
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn telecommunications systems
  • Availability to work a 24/7 rotating roster, including nights and weekends
