About Research
Research at the Women’s is broad and impactful, encompassing 12 Research Centres, approximately 60 clinical trials annually, and over 4,500 patients engaged in research each year. The hospital produces around 200 peer-reviewed publications annually and maintains strong partnerships with local and international research bodies.
About the role
The Strategic Advisor, Research Strategy and Structure is a senior leadership role at the Women’s, established to lead a comprehensive strategic review of the hospital’s research systems, structures, people and partnerships. This newly created position will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Midwifery and Nursing Officer and the Director of Research, to shape a future-focused vision for research at the Women’s.
Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic leadership & alignment - develop and implement a forward-looking research strategy and operational framework that aligns with hospital priorities, national agendas, LHSN strategies and the Parkville Biomedical Precinct
- Governance, culture & capability - establish governance and operational models that strengthen research excellence, build workforce capability and embed research into the hospital’s culture and clinical practice
- Infrastructure & future planning - oversee planning for research accommodation, including mapping functional requirements, optimal locations and integration to support future growth
- Partnerships & collaboration - identify and foster strategic partnerships across clinical, academic, philanthropic and government sectors, to drive high-impact translational research for women and newborns locally and globally

About you
You will be someone with outstanding communication, facilitation and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders, and convey complex ideas clearly.
You’ll bring with you:
- Relevant tertiary qualification(s), preferably at Master’s level, in fields such as research, health infrastructure, project management, public health leadership/management, or business administration
- Proven leadership in research strategy, partnerships, or capability development within a large health, academic, or research institution
- Demonstrated ability to implement enterprise-level initiatives that build research performance, culture, and collaboration
- Deep understanding of research development frameworks, health research translation, and institutional strategic alignment
- Strong experience in engaging government, universities, and funders in co-investment or policy-aligned initiatives
