The Royal Women’s Hospital is one of Australia’s oldest and most distinguished tertiary hospitals dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women and newborns, offering specialised services within maternity, neonatal and women’s health.  Our goal is to be the best place to work, learn and contribute, and to provide exceptional experiences for our patients and consumers.

About Neonatal Services

Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a leading tertiary referral centre, providing specialised care for premature and critically ill babies across Victoria. Through our Family Integrated Care model, we empower parents to be active partners in their baby’s care—building confidence, strengthening bonding and supporting the best possible start to life.

Beyond clinical excellence, our neonatal service is committed to education, training and groundbreaking research, shaping the future of neonatal care locally and globally. We are dedicated to supporting families every step of the way.

About the role

Are you a passionate Registered Nurse or Midwife ready to make a real impact? Join our Neonatal Services team and play a vital role in delivering safe, highquality, holistic care to infants and their families from admission through to discharge. Working closely with families and a supportive multidisciplinary team, you’ll help ensure every baby gets the best possible start to life.

As a Neonatal Nurse or Midwife trained in Special Care (SCN) and High Dependency (HDU), you’ll provide specialised, familyintegrated care to premature, unwell, and medically complex infants. You’ll use your clinical expertise to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care within a nurturing, developmentally supportive environment.

You’ll also empower families through education, advocacy, and active involvement in their baby’s care—building confidence, strengthening connection, and supporting them through one of the most important journeys of their lives.

A regular day will see you:

  • Delivering specialised care to premature, unwell, and medically complex infants in SCN and HDU
  • Monitoring infants closely, recognising early changes, and responding with confident clinical judgement
  • Supporting respiratory therapies such as CPAP and HFNP
  • Partnering with families through education, reassurance, and handson involvement in their baby’s care
  • Collaborating with a skilled multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, seamless, family integrated care (FiCare)
  • Promoting breastfeeding and providing specialised feeding support
  • Contributing to a positive, safe, and developmentally supportive environment
  • Engaging in continuous learning, quality improvement, and reflective practice

About you

You’re a compassionate and confident Registered Nurse or Midwife who is passionate about neonatal care and committed to giving every infant the strongest start in life. You thrive in a highacuity environment, communicate with clarity and empathy, and work seamlessly within a multidisciplinary team. You bring strong clinical judgement, emotional resilience, and a genuine commitment to Family Integrated Care (FiCare).

You will bring:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Midwife
  • Experience caring for premature, unwell, or medically complex infants in SCN and/or HDU
  • Strong clinical reasoning and the ability to respond confidently in fastpaced, highacuity situations
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to support, educate, and empower families
  • A collaborative approach and commitment to multidisciplinary teamwork
  • Willingness to work across a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays
  • A positive attitude toward learning, evidencebased practice, and ongoing professional development
  • Compassion, professionalism, and resilience in challenging situations
