About the team
The Womens Mental Health Service is consists of 2 F/T psychiatry Registrars, several consultants, CL MH clinicians and clinical psychologists. It provides a comprehensive Psychiatry CL service, and OP Perinatal and Gynecology service as well as a WADS (addiction in pregnancy) service. There is ongoing teaching and mentoring for stage 3 Registrars wanting experience in CL, Perinatal and Womens MH, and psychotherapy.there will be opportunity for observing antenatal psychology groups and following up cases for short-term interventions.
About the role. The Psychiatry Registrar will contribute to the provision of an effective and efficient consultation liaison psychiatry service to meet the needs of women who are inpatients or outpatients of RWH who have mental health problems. Registrars undertake a range of training oppo0rtunities in clinical and teaching aspects of Women’s Mental Health.
A regular day will see you:
- Provide a consultation-liaison perinatal service to women with mental health problems who are inpatients or outpatients of the Women’s e.g. assessment and management of antenatal and postnatal patients, gynaecology, oncology and other women’s health patients, and involvement with NICU families
- Work with other staff/units of RWH and provide advice, consultation and support to assist in the care of women with mental health problems.
- Contribute to the provision of teaching in women’s mental health to undergraduate students.
- Participate in the delivery of education and training for staff at RWH regarding women’s mental health to our maternity and gynecology colleagues medical, midwifery and nursing.
About you
We are ideally looking for a 4th or 5th year trainee who can work as part of an MDT, as well as autonomously as appropriate. The CL setting requires good interpersonal skills and ability to de-escalate patients as well as contain staff anxieties round challenging patients.
You’ll bring with you:
- Registered as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- Currently a trainee within the Victorian RANZCP Psychiatry Training Program.
- Candidates should preferably be Stage 3 Advanced Trainees, in either Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Generalist, or Adult psychiatry training, but we may consider Stage 2 Trainees
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and independently.
The Classification and Salary scale will be dependent on experience and you will be appointed and in accordance to the Australian Medical Association (Victoria) Doctors in Training Agreement 2022-2026.
