About our Post Graduate Midwifery Clinical Placements Program 2026
The Women’s provides clinical placements for Registered Nurses completing postgraduate midwifery studies to qualify and practice as a midwife.
Our postgraduate midwifery students are a valuable part of our team and our clinical placement rotations cover a diverse range of midwifery practice. Our highly experienced Clinical Support Midwives (CSMs) will work with you to support your learning journey through orientation, direct clinical support, clinical tutorials and regular debriefing sessions.
Most postgraduate midwifery placements at the Women’s are supernumerary* unpaid. Students are rostered a minimum of three days a week to complete their clinical requirements.
*Supernumerary means that you will be rostered in addition to the Registered Midwives in the clinical areas to maximise your clinical experience and meet your clinical objectives.
In 2026 approximately six (6) employed post-graduate positions will be available (dependent on government funding). The remaining places (6) are supernumerary (unpaid).
The Women’s works in partnership with La Trobe University to provide midwifery clinical placements for its Graduate Diploma in Midwifery program each year. Further information about the Graduate Diploma in Midwifery studies can be found on the La Trobe University website.
