About the team

The Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) service provides specialist multidisciplinary care for women and families experiencing complex and high risk pregnancies, including pregnancies affected by fetal abnormalities, multiple pregnancy and significant maternal medical conditions.

Our MFM service brings together midwifery, obstetrics and maternal fetal medicine, ultrasound, fetal cardiology and other specialist disciplines to provide coordinated, woman-centred care. We are also developing our virtual MFM model of care, strengthening partnerships with regional and referring health services and improving access to specialist MFM expertise for women closer to home.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Maternal Fetal Medicine Midwife Coordinator to join our specialist MFM team.

This is a diverse senior midwifery role combining clinical coordination, complex care navigation and service development. You will have core responsibility for coordinating Fetal Medicine Unit and fetal cardiology pathways, while working flexibly across MFM services including Multiple Pregnancy Clinic, Maternal Medicine and other specialist clinics according to service need. 

A key focus of this position will be supporting the development and delivery of our emerging virtual MFM model of care. Working alongside the multidisciplinary MFM team and our regional and partner health services, you will help establish coordinated virtual pathways that enable women with complex pregnancies to access specialist expertise while supporting continuity of care closer to home. 

A regular day will see you:

• Coordinate complex MFM referrals, clinics, investigations and multidisciplinary care pathways, including FMU and fetal cardiology.
• Support women and families navigating fetal abnormalities, maternal complications and high-risk pregnancies, providing compassionate information, education and continuity of care.
• Coordinate and help develop virtual MFM clinics with regional and partner health services, including identifying suitable women, preparing clinical information and investigations, scheduling care and supporting clear follow-up and escalation pathways.
• Collaborate across medical, midwifery, sonography, nursing, administrative and external health service teams to improve access, patient flow and innovative models of MFM care.

About you

You are an experienced midwife who enjoys coordinating complex care and working collaboratively across disciplines. You will be comfortable balancing clinical priorities with service coordination and will bring strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.

We are particularly interested in someone who is enthusiastic about innovation in maternity care and virtual health, and who can work collaboratively with metropolitan and regional teams to develop sustainable, woman centred models of care.

You’ll bring with you:

• Current registration with AHPRA as a Midwife.
• Relevant senior midwifery experience in complex/high-risk pregnancy care, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Fetal Medicine or a comparable specialist maternity service.
• Demonstrated experience working effectively within complex multidisciplinary and multispecialty models of care.
• Strong clinical coordination and organisational skills, with the ability to manage complex pathways, competing priorities and service demands.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to provide sensitive, supportive and woman-centred care to women and families experiencing fetal abnormality or complex pregnancy.
• An interest in service development and contemporary models of maternity care; experience in MFM, fetal medicine, fetal cardiology coordination and/or virtual models of care will be highly regarded.
