About the role
The Fellow will provide care:
- in consultation with supervising consultants, as deemed appropriate.
- In accordance with the published Junior Medical Staff rosters, which may vary from time to time, unless directed otherwise.
- By incorporating the best available evidence regarding quality and safety, including RWH Clinical Practice Guidelines.
- Through effective communication with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- With accountability for care delivered by junior medical staff under supervision or delegation.
- Comprehensively, ensuring timely record-keeping, discharge preparation, and communication with referring practitioners and those providing ongoing care.
Training Program:
The Fellow will be a RANZCOG CGO trainee and will join a dedicated multidisciplinary service including pathologists, radiologists, oncologists, specialist nurses and allied health professionals with a special interest in gynaecological cancer care. The gynaeoncology unit has established and strong links with the PeterMcCallum Cancer Centre (PMCC), the University of Melbourne and WEHI. As well as performing all gynaecological oncological surgical procedure this position includes exposure to less common cancer procedure such as exenteration, peritonectomy and HIPEC through the pelvic cancer team at PMCC. The Unit has a strong focus on research and in particular clinical trials with high recruitment rates within the precinct.
The training encompasses all gynaecological oncology surgical procedures as well as training in multidisciplinary care of women at risk of, suspected of having and diagnosed with gynaecological cancer.
There are five multidisciplinary meetings per fortnight and two research meetings per four week cycle.
The Oncology and Dysplasia service is a combined service and the trainee will have ongoing exposure to cervical cancer prevention training and dysplasia treatments.
The Victorian Gestational trophoblastic disease service is based at The Women’s and the fellow will have involvement in the care of women diagnosed with GTD and GTN.
Fellows are expected to:
• Attend teaching and training sessions as rostered, and as appropriate for their role.
• Fulfill the training requirements of accredited training positions.
• Actively engage in research projects during the term of their contract.
• Participate in and conduct teaching, audit sessions, and presentations suited to their level of training and experience.
• Supervise and teach more junior registrars and HMOs.
• Instruct medical students.
• Engage in audit and practice improvement activities.
• Prepare and present at multidisciplinary team meetings and activities.
• Undertake duties consistent with their skills, experience, and credentials.
• Serve on relevant committees and participate in management and service development activities, suitable to their skills and experience, in consultation with the JMS body.
• Develop skills in collaboration, supervision, and leadership appropriate to their career path and training level.
About you
You'll bring with you:
- Primary medical degree MBBS or equivalent
- Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
- RANZCOG CGO trainee.

The Classification and Salary scale will be dependent on experience and you will be appointed and in accordance to the Australian Medical Association (Victoria) Doctors in Training Agreement 2022-2026. Please note this position is not included in the PMCV Computer match.
