  • Full time 1.0 FTE - Fractional appointments will be considered.
  • Fixed term - 12 months parental leave cover starting Mid May 2026

The Women’s is a centre of excellence for perinatal care, research and education, with more than 7,000 births per year. The Maternal Fetal Medicine service at the Women’s is one of the busiest in the country, and encompasses specialist clinics in maternal medicine, fetal medicine, diabetes and endocrinology, multiple pregnancy, preterm labour prevention and pre-pregnancy counselling. Working alongside our obstetric medicine, neonatal and midwifery colleagues, we have strong links to specialty services in both the adult and paediatric spheres, facilitated by our close proximity to the Royal Children’s and Royal Melbourne Hospitals. Our ultrasound department offers exposure to a wide range of maternal and fetal conditions, with ample opportunity for diagnostic procedures.

About the role

The Consultant MFM Obstetrician will participate in the clinical care of women at the Royal Women's Hospital.

The provision of Consultant MFM Obstetrician services is the primary role of this position with a focus on the care of multiple pregnancies, fetal medicine and complex pregnancy ultrasound.

This position is responsible in collaboration with the Clinical Directors and Heads of Unit/ Team Leaders for:

  • Providing high quality outpatient and in-patient MFM Obstetric clinical services
  • Participation in the provision of emergency on call obstetric services to the Royal Women’s
  • Playing an active role in training registrars and resident medical officers and participate in the teaching of medical students and other health care trainees attached to the Women’s’ Services.
  • Actively initiating, leading, facilitating and participating in MFM research activities
  • Assisting the heads of Units with some administrative responsibilities

Tuesday AM: Multiple Pregnancy Clinic

Tuesday PM: Fetal Medicine Clinic

Thursday AM: Fetal Medicine Clinic

Thursday PM: Fetal Medicine Clinic

Friday PM: Ultrasound

About you

The role requires:

  • A Medical practitioner who is eligible for specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists
  • RANZCOG CMFM (or eligibility for the same within 6 months of appointment)
  • Proven clinical skills and experience
  • COGU or MFM+DDU or DDU required for Ultrasound sessions
