About the team

The Royal Women’s Hospital is one of Australia’s leading tertiary hospitals dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women and newborns.

The Women’s Alcohol and Drug Service (WADS) is a state-wide specialist service providing multidisciplinary, trauma-informed care for pregnant women with complex substance use and social vulnerability.


About the role

The Consultant Addiction Medicine Specialist provides high-quality addiction medicine care across ambulatory (WADS clinic) and inpatient settings, including participation in an on-call service. 


Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering specialist outpatient and inpatient addiction medicine services
  • Participating in on-call and recall services
  • Providing leadership within a multidisciplinary team
  • Collaborating with obstetric, neonatal, primary care and community providers
  • Teaching and supervising junior medical staff and students
  • Contributing to research, quality improvement and service development
  • Supporting clinical governance and administrative functions

About you

Experience/Qualifications/Competencies

The role requires a person with:

  • Specialist registration (or eligibility) with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Physicians (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience in addiction medicine
  • Strong multidisciplinary teamwork, leadership and communication skills
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centred care

The Classification and Salary scale will be dependent on experience, and you will be appointed and in accordance to the Australian Medical Association (Victoria) Medical Specialists Agreement 2022-2025.
