The Royal Women’s Hospital is one of Australia’s oldest and most distinguished tertiary hospitals dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women and newborns, offering specialised services within maternity, neonatal and women’s health.  Our goal is to be the best place to work, learn and contribute, and to provide exceptional experiences for our patients and consumers.

About the team

The Social Model of Health (SMOH) division ensures coordinated clinical and social support services that deliver wraparound care for women, particularly those most vulnerable. Recognising that social, economic, cultural, environmental, and geographic factors shape health, SMOH works to reduce inequalities and address systemic barriers to care. It oversees key services such as Women’s Mental Health, Social Work, Aboriginal Health Liaison, WADS, FARREP, Spiritual Care, and programs focused on family violence and homelessness. In partnership with hospitals, universities, and the Department of Health, SMOH also leads initiatives like the Strengthening Hospital Responses to Family Violence program (SHRFV), embedding a whole-of-hospital approach to improving outcomes for women and families.

About the role

As the Statewide Children and Young Person Emerging Practice (CYPEP) Lead you will play a pivotal role in enhancing Victoria's health sector response to family violence, specifically focusing on children and young people as both victim survivors and users of violence. Embedded within the (SHRFV) initiative, this statewide practice-focused position is responsible for driving the development, implementation, and coordination of emerging best practices across hospital settings.

Key responsibilities will see you:

  • Drive trauma- and violence-informed responses across the health system, ensuring alignment with major reforms such as the Royal Commission into Family Violence and the Victorian Government’s Child and Family Services reform agenda
  • Strengthen collaboration between hospitals, community services, and government partners to build capacity, deliver training, and ensure children and young people impacted by family violence receive early and effective support
  • Work closely with clinical teams to advance education, research, and policy development, fostering coordinated care and early intervention through programs like the Women’s Alcohol and Drug Service (WADS)

The Women’s is proud to have been awarded funding by Safer Care Victoria’s Family Violence Reform team to lead a unique, once-in-a-lifetime project supporting the sector in the launch of the Children and Young Persons’ MARAM. You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to significant, state-wide reforms that strengthen trauma- and violence-informed care, build sector-wide partnerships, and improve outcomes for women, children, and families across Victoria. You will also receive clinical supervision from the Royal Children’s Hospital. This role includes travel across Melbourne and regional Victoria.

About you

You will be someone with strong communication, collaboration and influencing skills, who can build trusted relationships across diverse stakeholders. You’ll have cultural awareness, sound judgment, and the ability to lead with empathy in complex and sensitive environments.

You’ll bring with you:

  • A minimum qualification of a Bachelor of Social Work, and eligibility for membership with the AASW or other professional body as relevant to the qualification held, along with a  minimum of 7 years’ experience in hospitals and 7 years in family violence
  • Extensive knowledge of and experience within both rural and metro hospitals and public health settings, including navigating clinical systems, multidisciplinary teams, and acute or subacute care environments
  • Knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation and practice frameworks relating to family violence practice, including the Family Violence Information Sharing Scheme (FVISS), Child Information Sharing Scheme (CISS) and the Family Violence Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management Framework (MARAM)
  • Demonstrated experience working with women and children victim/survivors of family violence presenting with complex needs and behaviours (e.g. trauma, substance abuse, mental health, parenting issues, disability) and/or from CALD or indigenous backgrounds and/or LGBTIQA+ communities; and/or adolescents who use family violence
