The Royal Women’s Hospital is one of Australia’s oldest and most distinguished tertiary hospitals dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women and newborns, offering specialised services within maternity, neonatal and women’s health. Our goal is to be the best place to work, learn and contribute, and to provide exceptional experiences for our patients and consumers.
About the team
The Women’s is a centre of excellence for perinatal care, research and education, with more than 7,000 births per year.
The Women’s Emergency Care (WEC) is the Emergency Department at the Royal Women’s Hospital. WEC sees approximately 28,000 presentations per year covering all aspects of gynaecological, obstetric and neonatal issues. The department is a 12-cubicle unit with a resuscitation cubicle for patients requiring higher level care. We have access to inpatient units for admitted care and also to outpatient services such as Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS) and ultrasound scanning. The department is overseen by a Medical Director and a Nurse Unit Manager.
About the role
The purpose of the position is to provide medical care and support in the Women’s Emergency Care, as part of a multi-disciplinary team, which is consistent with the level of clinical competency and experience of the appointee. As part of a 6-month pilot study, the postholder will support the assessment and management of patients in WEC, whilst working under the supervision of doctors in senior roles.
The Assistant in Medicine will work in WEC during the evening shift (17:00-22:00), when evening demand places pressure on patient flow and the timely delivery of care, which increases workload for medical staff. The postholder will be required to participate in surveys / focus groups / data analysis etc related to the evaluation of the AiMs pilot.
